Games to play with a random letter
- Scattergories / Stop / Categories: spin a letter, then everyone writes a country, animal, food and name starting with it before the timer ends.
- Alphabet story: each player adds one sentence to a story starting with the letter the wheel picks.
- Phonics practice: students say the sound and a word that starts with the letter.
- Drawing game: draw something beginning with the letter in 60 seconds.
Leave out the hard letters
Q, X, Z and sometimes V, Y and K are very hard in most word games. Delete their lines from the entries box to remove them from the wheel, or add vowels twice to make them more likely. "Remove winner after spin" is turned on by default here, so you never get the same letter twice in a game; press Reset to bring all letters back.
Make your own wheel
Everything on this wheel can be changed: edit the entries box to add, remove or rename slices, and your version is saved in this browser. To start from a blank wheel, use the main spin the wheel page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I avoid getting the same letter twice?
Yes. "Remove winner after spin" is on by default on this page, so each letter is taken off the wheel once it is picked. Turn it off to allow repeats.
How do I remove difficult letters like Q and X?
Delete their lines in the entries box. The wheel updates instantly.
Can I use another alphabet?
Yes. Replace the entries with any letters or characters, one per line — for example Spanish Ñ, Greek letters or Japanese kana.
Does it work on a classroom projector?
Yes. Use the full-screen button to show only the wheel in large size.
