How to use the yes or no wheel
Think of a question that can be answered with yes or no, then click the wheel or press Spin. The pointer at the top lands on your answer. Every slice has the same chance of winning, so with three Yes and three No slices the odds are exactly 50/50.
Change the odds
The wheel is fully editable. Each line in the entries box is one slice, so the share of slices is the share of the probability:
- Add a line with "Maybe" for a three-way answer.
- Use four Yes and two No for a two-in-three chance of yes.
- Replace the answers with "Do it", "Skip it" or "Ask again tomorrow" for more fun.
When a yes or no wheel helps
Small decisions you keep going back and forth on — order takeaway tonight, go for a run, watch one more episode — are exactly what a random answer is good for. Psychologists often point out that when you flip a coin or spin a wheel, your gut reaction to the answer tells you what you actually wanted. If you feel disappointed by "No", you probably wanted to say yes.
Make your own wheel
Everything on this wheel can be changed: edit the entries box to add, remove or rename slices, and your version is saved in this browser. To start from a blank wheel, use the main spin the wheel page.
Frequently asked questions
Is the yes or no wheel really random?
Yes. The winning slice is chosen with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the animation starts, so every slice has exactly the same chance.
Why are there six slices instead of two?
Two huge slices make a boring spin. Six alternating slices keep the odds at 50/50 while making the wheel more exciting to watch.
Can I add Maybe?
Yes. Type "Maybe" on a new line in the entries box. With three Yes, three No and one Maybe, each answer type has a 3/7, 3/7 and 1/7 chance.
Should I make big decisions with a wheel?
No — use it for fun and for small choices. For anything important, the wheel is best used to notice how you feel about the answer it gives.
